Companies Thrive on Data Analytics Skills

We all have heard about Big Data, and some of us have taken initial steps to move into data analytics to a degree. But are we truly aware of the future consequences if we don't master this looming challenge?

Many of us in IT are used to attending seminars and training classes, and the brightest among us are relatively confident in our abilities to master the latest advances in technology. But how many of us today can honestly say we are expert at integrating and analyzing large volumes of data, whether generated in-house or outside?

My personal take is that we may be headed toward a shakeout in business where the survivors are companies who make data analytics a central focus of their business. I'm sure initially it will depend on the specific industry and its competition, but I can see a day when mergers and acquisitions accelerate because weak companies have failed to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them in the form of data analytics.
