    How to achieve a storage networking ROI

    There are many SRM vendors, such as Computer Associates, IBM/Tivoli, Sun Microsystems and Astrum Software (which was founded by the writer of this article). Of course, not all are created equal. To capitalize on this ROI opportunity, choose an SRM platform that goes beyond simple notification and reporting. Look for applications that offer active policy-based management, allowing automated action at the file level and across heterogeneous platforms. For example, most SRM tools can tell you when a file system threshold is exceeded. Far fewer, though, provide corrective actions that can reduce the amount of storage in the volume or directory to get it below the threshold automatically.

    The administration of any or all of backup, archival, disaster recovery and hierarchical storage management (HSM) procedures within an organization.

    Data Management
