Interviews with Experts:.
Jack Ryan, Technical Support Manager at TSM Reports.com on Storage Metrics
This is the first in a series of interviews with specialists at TSM Reports.com on storage metrics. This one covers the question: What is Dynamic Data Change Rate and why should you care?
Storage lives and grows daily, exhibiting a characteristic known as change rate. In fact, storage systems are built with caching intelligence to anticipate changes to data and direct resources to expedite handling of updates … all this ultimately translates into a dynamic data change rate.

Sneak and Ye Shall Find
Of course, it depends on that which you seek. Just what is it that you seek? Well, that’s pretty easy, isn’t it? INFORMATION! There it is. Nailed it down. We start out in life seeking and gathering information and we continue to do so until we die. The old saw says that if you have enough information, you can predict the future. Well, maybe, but I think that Mr. Heisenberg with his Uncertainty Principle has thrown a large enough monkey wrenchey into the predict the future part of that theory to render it invalid. Of course the first part that says if you have enough information will hold true for those folks who will never have enough information, whatever their situation. These are the ones that we need to keep our eyes on because they’re the ones that keep their eyes on you.

Key Factoid: Fallout of a Disaster:.
Consider these stats when updating your DR plan:
60% of businesses affected in the 1993 WTC terrorist bombing were out of business within two years (Canadian Insurance Company).
43% of US companies never reopened after a disaster, and 29% more were closed in three years (U.S. National Fire Protection Agency).
20% of small to medium sized businesses suffer a major disaster resulting in the loss of business-critical data every five years (Richmond House Group, a UK-based insurance provider for business).
The 1992 flood in downtown Chicago left 230 buildings without power for more than a week, affecting 8,000 – 10,000 businesses with estimated losses in excess of $1.5 billion (Disaster Recovery Journal, Spring 1998)
