Director Explained
Arthur Coster at Vision Solutions talks about Vision Solutions' Director product and its many functions.

We talked to Arthur Coster, Senior Product Specialist at Vision Solutions, about the various components within the Director product described in Key’s September Webinar.
 
Coster started by saying, “Director provides tremendous benefits to clients. It helps improve performance and reduces system management requirements as it provides advanced reporting and job tracking and scheduling.”

Director is a systems management product containing five modules. All help to better manage data and resources on the iSeries,” he added.

Coster went on to describe each module:
 
Optimization Module – Improves the performance of the server.
 
Object Module – Displays all information about the objects on your server, including libraries, objects, directories and objects inside of directories.
 
Job Tracking Module – Provides insight into all jobs on the server, what has been saved/restored, who is changing system values, CPU utilization by hour, historical work active jobs, and response times by day drilling into response time by user.
 
Task Manager Module – Job scheduler for scheduling jobs.
 
Advanced Options Module – To save/restore spool files, archive spool files, setup reporting by groups of Libraries, and internal Director security.
 
Data Manager Module – Provides the ability to archive data records from files – while maintaining the referential integrity between files. Selection criteria are created in a query-like interface.
