From Pete's Desk:.

Focus, Focus, Focus!

To our clients and friends,

Is mission creep affecting your organization? Are you becoming surrounded by completely different projects than what you intended to handle last year? Do you have three different marketing programs and seven different key projects on your desk? It may be time to acknowledge that mission creep has your projects in its unrelenting grip. Losing focus is an extremely common reason for good programs going awry. After this concept first registered in my brain, I found myself passing that lesson on to my co-workers. The mantra, "Focus, Focus, Focus," will get you back to a realistic number of activities.

One last piece of practical advice. Being in business is much like being in a battle…yes, that's a fair assessment of what's going on out there in our world. A shotgun never worked as well as the rifle. So, focus, take aim and fire! Focus will do wonders for improving your aim!

Success to all,

Pete Elliot

Key Sponsorship:.

Key to Sponsor the PGA TOUR's Nissan Open

Key Information Systems has become a new sponsor of the 2006 Nissan Open presented by Countrywide. The famous PGA TOUR event will be held at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, CA, on Thursday, February 16, through Sunday, February 19. Conceived and managed by the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce (LAJCC), the tournament benefits local charities in the community, generating more than $50 million in charitable funding since its inception 80 years ago in 1926.

Key will be sponsoring the 17th Green Panorama Suite, offering a unique view of the Par 5, 576 yard, 17th hole, where birdie action is expected as the leaders deal with the stress of the final holes.
Key's co-sponsors for the Panorama Suite are AVNET, Brocade, IBM, Microsoft and Q4bis.

Key's own fundraising activity at the event is targeted for the Urban Youth Golf Program, one of the many community service programs supported by the LAJCC.

If you are a client of Key Information Systems, please contact your Key account representative to learn how you can be a part of this worthy event, or contact Kendrell Craven at 818.737.2808.

Key's Direction for 2006:.

What's Ahead

We interviewed execs and employees at Key to see what is in store for 2006, and found Pete Elliot, Director of Marketing, willing to talk about what's ahead in terms of technology focus at Key.

"We have a technology study at Key every year that helps us to determine our direction for the coming year," reports Elliot. "This year, we identified seven new technologies that we feel are important for our clients to understand; we will be planning Key Webinars and other education events focused on these technologies."

The new technologies are:

  • New IBM Cell Technology
  • Blade Server technology and Server Consolidation
  • Storage Management: Tivoli
  • High Availability
  • VMware: Virtualization
  • Fault Tolerance: Windows
  • Dynamic Business Output - Servicing the Demands of the Online Dynamic Marketplace with Scriptura

Of these new technologies, IBM's new Cell technology announced on February 8, will particularly have far-reaching effects. IBM co-developed the new Cell-chip technology with Toshiba and Sony for gaming consoles, including Sony's new PlayStation 3, scheduled for release later this year. IBM is now installing the new Cell processors in its BladeCenter computers. IBM has noted that the highly graphics-intensive engine in the Cell chip can render whole cities and landscapes on the fly. Using the new Cell chips in IBM's new BladeCenter H blades enables moving 10 times the data across networks compared to existing systems.

"Staying on top of emerging technologies so we can help our clients to leverage their benefits is one of our most important functions at Key," Lief Morin, Key's President, said. The result of this effort to remain at the cutting edge of technology is packaged into Key's Webinars that can be efficiently attended online by both Key's clients and the IT community at large.

Allen Shahdadi, Director of Sales at Key, added, "The quality of our account execs and technical specialists extends the learning of our Key Webinars right into the workspace at the time and location most convenient to our clients."

Key continually monitors the interests and technology requirements of its clients. Interests and needs for any technology not mentioned above should be communicated to your Key account exec or to Allen Shahdadi at ashahdadi@keyinfo.com.
