Progress Report: Key's Survey on IT Needs

To our clients and friends,

Last month, we launched our study on the IT concerns of organizations in the western U.S. This survey was developed by Key with assistance from IBM executives and computer analysts at MC PressOnline.  It’s crafted to obtain an in-depth understanding of the challenges, opportunities and priorities of IT organizations.

We hope you will assist us by participating in the survey if one of our researchers calls you. Results will be seen here first, as soon as we receive sufficient responses to begin to formulate findings.

Last month, Key executives attended the AVNET worldwide business partner conference. Selected from all AVNET business partners in the western U.S., Key received the Top Partner Award from Avnet and IBM. You can read more below.

Last month, we also conducted seminars on Microsoft SQL Server 2005. See below for details.

Finally, to see what we have contributed to MC PressOnline regarding the selection and evaluation of hardware VARs, go here.

Success to all,

Pete Elliot

August Webinar Report:.

Continuous Server Availability with VMware

Key's August Webinar explored how to keep users happy by maximizing server uptime for critical production apps. Attendees learned how to eliminate planned and unplanned Windows server downtime by using VMware for server virtualization. SMB is the Place to Be:.

Major Buyers for Servers and Storage

Why are so many vendors targeting their big computer product announcements at small to medium-sized businesses? The numbers tell the story. To take just one example, The Yankee Group, in their 2006 Small & Medium Business Storage Survey, reports total storage spending growth of $13.5 billion last year. Spending growth for the storage sector by SMBs will increase an impressive 14 percent this year.

Here’s how the $13.5 billion for 2006 breaks out:

  • Storage Hardware - $7.1 billion (52%)
  • Storage Services - $3.6 billion (27%)
  • Software Management Software - $2.8 billion (21%)

As more and more SMBs adopt network storage (NAS or SAN, iSCSI or Fibre Channel), spending on storage services is expected to continue its upward trend.
