3 Reasons Why 2018 is the Year of the Backup

Year of the Backup BlogFor many who celebrate the Chinese New Year, 2018 marks the Year of the Dog. Honest and loyal, dogs are considered the truest friend and most reliable partner. This may be bad news for those people who are Dragons, Ox or Goats, yet hope appears to be on the horizon. With all due respect to the Chinese calendar, we at KeyInfo are marking 2018 as the Year of the Backup! As 2018 continues to fly by, we’d like to discuss our reasoning for such a claim:

Case #1: Nick Foles – Philadelphia Eagles
On February 4th, 2018, the world witnessed what most deemed impossible – a backup quarterback taking down Tom Brady and the mighty New England Patriots’ Empire. Not only did this backup throw for 373 yards and 3 touchdowns, he also caught a touchdown on an improbably play called the “Philly Special,” and won the MVP. How did we get here? Phildelphia’s starting quarterback, Carson Wentz, suffered an injury in week 14 that would sideline him for the rest of the season. Despite many writing this team off, in comes backup Nick Foles to save the day and bring the city of Philadelphia its first Super Bowl championship, thus proving that when disaster strikes, an organization can only go as far as their backup(s) will take them.

Case #2: Tua Tagovailoa – Alabama Crimson Tide
On January 8th, 2018, Alabama went into halftime with a 13-0 deficit to the Georgia Bulldogs. Stuck with a stagnant offense and looking for answers, Alabama coach Nick Saban could have chosen one of the throwing contestants from the Dr. Pepper Halftime show but instead went with his backup. The move paid off bigtime as Tagovailoa threw for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns, including a bomb in overtime to seal the game. Yet again, this instance proves that it is never too late to deploy a new, updated backup strategy.

Case #3: Flexi-Van’s partnership with KeyInfo
Flexi-Van, one of the largest chassis providers in North America, was dealing with lost backups of electronic data interchange (EDI) files and data restore failures, causing weeks of scrambling and lost time.
